Rob’s Story

Staying healthy and active has always been important to me, but seeing family members’ health deteriorate as they aged was a wake-up call. It made me realise how daily habits can build up over a lifetime, for better or worse. I didn’t want to wait until it was too late—I wanted to stay fit not just for myself but to keep up with my growing daughters. That’s what motivated me to begin my fitness journey at TMB.

At the start, my goals were pretty straightforward. I wanted to be a little “harder to kill,” as the saying goes, and to correct some longstanding musculoskeletal imbalances. Beyond that, I really wanted to learn how to lift weights properly and safely, with good form.

Since joining, the results have been more than I anticipated. The legacy aches and pains I used to have have vanished, and I’ve seen real strength gains. One of the best parts is that I’ve stuck with the routine much longer than I ever expected. In the past, my gym memberships fizzled out pretty quickly, but something about TMB has kept me engaged. For me, there’s a psychological nudge—I sign up for a class, and then I feel committed to showing up. Canceling just isn’t an option for me!

I’ve hit several personal bests along the way, which has been incredibly rewarding. I really enjoy being pushed beyond my comfort zone, and the team at TMB always encourages me to challenge myself. That being said, finding the time to train has been one of the biggest challenges. Like many people, balancing work, family, and gym time can feel like a juggling act. However, working a hybrid job has allowed me to replace long train commutes with gym sessions a couple of days a week, which has been a game changer for my routine.

Day to day, I’ve noticed subtle yet important changes. I have more energy, and I feel more resilient, both physically and mentally. Simple things, like being able to pick up my daughters more easily as they grow, have made a real difference.

For anyone starting their fitness journey, my advice is simple: just turn up. Be prepared to push yourself, and the team at TMB will handle the rest. The environment there has been key to my success. The trainers are friendly, non-judgmental, and the other members are just as supportive. Classes are incredibly efficient, especially for people like me who are short on time, and they deliver great results.

Looking forward, my goals are to stay injury-free, continue with the routine, and continue my education on diet and nutrition. I’m also proud to say that my wife, Rebecca, has joined TMB too, even though she had never lifted weights before. We’re juggling our schedules, but it’s important to us to set a good example for our daughters as they grow up. Regular exercise has become part of our family’s lifestyle, and I’m grateful for what TMB has helped us achieve.

This journey has been about more than just fitness—it’s about becoming stronger, healthier, and happier in every aspect of life.
