Hannah’s Story
Starting my fitness journey at TMB was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Before joining, I struggled to maintain a regular fitness routine and felt intimidated by the weights sections in traditional gyms. I knew I wanted to incorporate weight training into my life—everything I read emphasised how important it is for overall health—but I had no idea where to start.
I decided to dive straight in with four personal training sessions alongside group classes. This gave me the opportunity to learn proper techniques while also having someone hold me accountable. From the very beginning, I felt supported and encouraged, which made all the difference.
Setting My Goals
When I first joined, my goals were straightforward: improve my overall fitness, increase muscle tone, and achieve one specific milestone—I really wanted to be able to do a pull-up.
Celebrating My Achievements
The progress I’ve made since starting has exceeded my expectations. My strength has improved significantly, and while I started from a low benchmark, I didn’t expect to see results as quickly as I did—or to enjoy it as much as I do!
One of my proudest achievements so far is trap bar deadlifting nearly my full body weight. Before joining TMB, I hadn’t even attempted a deadlift, but now I’m hooked. I’m constantly pushing myself to lift heavier weights while maintaining good form, and it’s so rewarding to see the progress.
Overcoming Challenges
At the beginning, my biggest challenge was carving out time to attend sessions. Work often got in the way, but after taking some time to reflect, I realised how important training was for both my physical and mental health. Now, attending TMB has become one of my main forms of self-care.
How It’s Changed My Life
The changes I’ve experienced since starting this journey go beyond just physical fitness. My confidence and resilience have grown in ways I didn’t expect, and those improvements have carried over into other areas of my life.
Advice for Others Starting Out
If you’re just starting out, my advice is simple: keep showing up, regularly. Making fitness a consistent part of your routine and seeing familiar faces at the gym makes a huge difference. Also, if you’re new to the ski erg, learn good form early—you’ll thank yourself during those EMOMs!
Why TMB Works for Me
The environment at TMB has been a huge part of my success. The team is incredibly supportive, both during PT sessions and in group classes. I’m constantly inspired by other members, which motivates me to push harder and try things I might have felt unsure about before. And let’s not forget the great music—it definitely helps keep the energy up!
Looking Ahead
I’m still working on that unassisted pull-up, but my goals have grown. I want to continue improving my muscle tone and eventually tackle some movements with more than my body weight. Strength training has become a permanent part of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come.
